From President’s Desk

It was a sunny midday of 7th February 2012. A packed tourist bus carrying about 40 passengers plunge off Dhauli hills on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar. While descending from the top of the hill it passed the concrete fence bordering the hilly roads and the bus tumbled nearly 40 feet and got stock in trees on the foothills. The hill was soaked with hot blood of passengers. 4 of them died on the spot and others were seriously injured. The Sahaya team reached within 10 minutes and the rescue operation was started. With the help of other volunteers and police Sahaya team transported all the victims to Capital Hospital and the victims with critical condition were transported to Cuttack SCB Medical College for specialised treatment. Sahaya volunteers were on duty round the clock to meet the needs of attendant, medicine, clothes, blood and other help to the patients. Eventually many precious lives were saved and the survivors of such a serious accident could went back to their families.

Registered as a philanthropic society, Sahaya has been extending emergency support to the road accident victims and providing medical assistance to the less fortunate, young and old who are seriously affected by poverty, negligence and destitution for last eight years. It reaches out to sick and dying patients underneath the railway flyover or near the bus stops or on the street corners and rescues them as soon as possible. While the most serious cases get immediate attention and first aid at the spot, those requiring long-term rehabilitation are also helped for the same. The work is finished when the patient is restored to his/her family or rehabilitated at any destitute home.

The endeavor was initiated by Kailash Chandra Sarangi a kind hearted vegetable seller who latter acted as a one man round the clock helpline for the needy people. Kailash is just a telephone call away for the destitute patients and road accident victims. His honest dedication for the service of suffering humanity inspired all of us to join him. Hence the organization took its shape. Presently it reaches out to over 1000 road accident victims, 2000 destitute patients, and other need people and children with multifarious activities.

Sahaya has crossed several mile stones, ups and downs in the process of its social ventures but every time we all are learning and are getting enthused to meet new challenges. The smiles on the faces of destitute patients and the children it reaches out to is only possible due to the support of all our donors, well wishers and philanthropists who believes on giving for the needy. The splendid effort of Sahaya would continue with the blessings of divine grace and the support of our friends.
